1928
Research in the field of physical therapy by Dr. Erwin Schliephake
In 1928, Dr. Erwin Schliephake began to research the effect of short waves and sound waves on the human body. He worked in the areas of medicine and biology with a focus on physical therapy. At first, he researched the effect of waves on substances and simple organisms - until the positive findings also made short waves and sound waves applicable to human diseases.
1932
Foundation of NOVAVON
The company NOVAVON is founded by Mr Lindacher, who developed the first device for vibration therapy. In the following years, numerous publications were also produced in form of field reports by the doctors involved. Later, his son also joined the business.

First device for vibration therapy
In 1932, Dr. Schliephake developed the first "NOVAVON" in cooperation with Mr. Lindacher. In the following years, he used it to research the therapy's effect on a variety of clinical pictures. In this first version, there was only one frequency (100 Hz), which has proven its value until today.
1950s
Development of the device form "SK1"
At the beginning of the 1950s, the device form "SK1" was born. The robust and clear form as well as the simple handling has proven its value until today.

Renaming from NOVAVON to NOVAFON
With the first entry in the Commercial Register, NOVAVON with a "V" is renamed in NOVAFON with an "F". The reason for this renaming is still not fully explained. The assumption is that they intended to focus on the meaning of "Fon". "Fon" or "Phon" is the unit of measurement of the volume level. This demonstrates that NOVAFON works in a frequency range which is audible to the human ear.
1965
Establishing the „Gate-Control“ theory
In 1965, Roland Melzack and Patrick David Wall established the "gate-control" theory. This says that pain stimuli are perceived by pain receptors and run along "pain pathways" in the spinal cord, are processed in the "posterior horn". The stimulus (e.g. vibration from NOVAFON) on the "thicker pain pathway" overlaps the stimulus (pain) on the "thinner pain pathway". This theory still exists today in modern science. 1985
New device form „SK2“ with extension handle
A new milestone in the history of devices for NOVAFON: Another form has been developed for even more comfortable use at home. Another new "extra" is the 2nd frequency with 50 Hz as a knocking massage (percussion) to relax the muscles. Today we call this device NOVAFON pro.
1994
Change of ownership to the Kauffmann family
A new chapter begins: The Kauffmann family takes over the NOVAFON company from the Lindacher family on 1 July 1994. Until then, the Kauffmann family had been responsible for the development and production of the technical springs installed in the devices:

Magnetic attachment for diverse use of NOVAFON
The tapered shape of the magnetic attachment bundles and amplifies the sound waves. This enables the selective, intensified treatment of, for example, trigger points or deep-lying treatment areas compared to the ball and disk attachment.
1999
First approval as a medical device
The scientific testing of sound wave therapy reaches its first peak: TÜV approval for NOVAFON as a medical device manufacturer - and a proven effectiveness of the vibrations to relieve pain. Even today, NOVAFON is approved as a medical device.
2014
NOVAFON's first training course for therapists
Since October 2014, we provide training courses for speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and naturopathic practitioners. In these courses, the application of the NOVAFON in the specific field is discussed and participants practice using the NOVAFON and its various attachments. Our lecturers are experts in their field and have been using NOVAFON for years.
2015
Generation change in October 2015
Alexander Kauffmann takes over the management of NOVAFON GmbH in October 2015 in 2nd generation. He has been working in the company since 2008.
2016
Launch of the new "intraoral attachments"
The intraoral attachments allow the application of the vibrations inside the mouth as well. Using different shapes and surfaces, the vibrations are used for intraoral stimulation of sensory and motor disorders.
2016
First roadshow "NOVAFON erleben"
The roadshow " NOVAFON erleben" took place for the first time in 2016. This resulted in 3 further roadshows in 2017/2018. Since then, we have also offered " NOVAFON erleben vor Ort", where groups of more than 20 people can register for a free personal workshop at the desired location, conducted by an expert.

Launch of the "Rehabilitation attachments"
The REHAB set contains a cone attachment, a pin attachment and a disk attachment XL. They offer a wide range of applications, e.g. a very selective, precise application (cone attachment), a particularly stimulating treatment (pin attachment) or the treatment of large areas of the body such as the back or thighs (disk attachment XL).

The new Sensory Roller
The set of three rollers was developed to stimulate surface and deep-tissue sensitivity. Two well-established treatment methods are combined: The vibrations of the NOVAFON sound wave devices as well as the stimulation of the upper skin layers, comparable to a spiky massage ball, to promote blood circulation. The Intraroal Lamp
The intraoral lamp improves and simplifies intraoral treatment by illuminating the mouth. The structures become more visible which enables precise treatment - for example in dysphagia therapy.
