TREATMENT OF THE SHOULDER
A painful shoulder is most often associated with a rotator cuff problem. The rotator cuff consists of a group of four muscles whose tendons form a cuff around the shoulder joint. This cuff extends from the shoulder blade to the upper arm bone. The primary functions of the rotator cuff are to stabilise the shoulder joint and to centre the upper arm bone in the socket of the joint. The four muscles are responsible for internal and external rotation as well as the lateral lifting of the arm. Stress symptoms or inflammations of the rotator cuff (impingement syndrome) manifest as pain when lifting the arm, working overhead or in throwing movements.
Massage of the shoulder
Massage of the shoulder
The NOVAFON vibration product can be used for the massage of the neck and shoulder muscles. A NOVAFON massage takes a total of 10–15 minutes per side and can be repeated up to twice daily. Before you start, plug your NOVAFON into the socket and take a comfortable seat on a chair. If your mobility is impaired, seek assistance from a second person. In this massage scenario, make sure that you do not work on the spinous processes of the spinal column, but to the left or right of them. Carry out the massage on the affected side, or both sides if required. Make sure to follow the steps outlined here.
1 – MASSAGE THE SHOULDER FROM THE FRONT
Relax the affected arm and shoulder so that it hangs down with the palm facing the body. Next, using the plate attachment with the NOVAFON on level II, move the vibration product over the area from the middle of the upper arm to the acromion for 2–3 minutes in long, linear strokes. Repeat the same procedure with the palm turned outwards.
2 – MASSAGE THE SHOULDER BLADE
Next, above the shoulder blade, move the vibration product from the spine towards the shoulder. Then use linear strokes to massage the area between the shoulder blade and the spine several times, from top to bottom, and circle around the shoulder blade down to the armpit. Continue for 2–3 minutes.
3 – MASSAGE THE ANTERIOR SHOULDER REGION
Switch from the plate to the ball attachment and massage the individual areas for 30–60 seconds at level I. You can focus on the affected point, or massage it using gentle circular motions.
4 – MASSAGE THE SHOULDER BLADE REGION
The areas usually affected are located in the upper third of the upper arm and in the area of the shoulder blade. Massage the relevant areas as needed. Repeat the massage up to twice a day, on both sides, if required.
